In February of 2023, James Lagger met Kijjambu Arafat on a Southern Baptist Facebook page. Kijjambu is attending Uganda Baptist Seminary, and James decided to help donate towards his tuition. Kijjambu wrote James back, and they quickly became friends. Through their messaging and video chatting James discovered that Kijjambu, along with his friend Jane, help run a children’s home of about 37 children. Most of these children were not in school at the time. Wanting to assist Kijjambu and be more involved, James decided he and his family should go to Uganda to meet Kijambu in person and check out the children’s home. James, his wife Ginny, and their daughter, Olivia, left for Uganda in August of 2023 for a 12 day trip. While in Uganda they were able to visit the children, provide food, clothes, mattresses, and medicine.
Seeing the tremendous needs, they made the decision to take pictures of each of the children so when they returned to the United States, they could find sponsors so that all the children would be able to attend school. School in Uganda is not free, but the children need to attend school to get a job once they are old enough. While in Uganda they met a man named Pastor Abel. They were able to visit his village and church. They learned that in the village, Kinoni, where he lives there are many children also unable to attend school. Another partnership was born. With God’s direction, James and Pastor Abel committed to find sponsor’s for these children also. As of right now there are over 70 children being sponsored. Each of these children are now attending school so they can break the cycle of poverty.
The main goal is for these children to become educated not only in scholastic material, but most importantly, in the Word of God so they can go into Uganda and share the love of Jesus. Kijambu regularly has Bible study with the children so they are prepared to go and share the Gospel.
